As we all know Project consist of a number of interdependent activities happening in a sequential manner over a period of time. Each activity acquire a unique position on the project timeline.

Gantt chart basically represents these positions against time considering dependencies each activity has. Gantt charts are very powerful in planning and scheduling a project. But Gantt chart is a 2 dimensional presentation of all the project activities.

Moreover Gantt chart doesn’t necessarily take into account the relationship of different production rates of different activities and it’s impact on overall project schedule from optimization point of view.

Line of balance is a technique which takes into accounts variable production rates of different activities and facilitates balancing of it in such a way that each activity performs quite efficiently to it’s full potential.

The line of balance is a great techniques and when combined with Gantt chart gives a great control over the entire project and different processes.
